Week 13: Regular season ends with flurry of top perfomances
Some careers might be over, but their stats will live on
In the final week of college football’s regular season, we saw several players finish at a very high level. It’s been a huge year for many of the top football players at historically black colleges and universities in the country.
- Alabama State University running back Khalid Thomas had 17 carries for 171 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Hornets to a 53-20 victory over Miles College in the Turkey Day Classic. Thomas scored on a six-yard and a 42-yard touchdown run.
- South Carolina State University redshirt junior Mykal Moody, who changed positions from wide receiver to quarterback, led the Bulldogs to a 28-0 win over Bethune-Cookman University. Moody had 21 rushing attempts for 141 yards and three touchdowns. He had 321 yards in total offense.
- Morgan State University running back Lamont Brown III had 13 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns as the Bears defeated Savannah State University, 35-24.
- Tuskegee quarterback Kevin Lacey connected on 22 of 36 passes for 276 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions as the Golden Tigers fell to North Greenville University, 45-26, in the Division II playoffs. Lacey also had seven carries for 36 yards.
- In North Carolina A&T State University’s 39-10 loss to Richmond in the Division II playoffs, the Spiders held Aggies running back Tarik Cohen, who was averaging 138 rushing yards a game, to just 70 yards on 13 carries. However, he broke his own single-season rushing record from last season with 1,588 yards, and finished as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s career rushing leader with 5,619 yards.
- At the Bayou Classic, won by Grambling State University, 52-30, quarterback DeVante Kincade was 24 of 33 for 283 yards and one touchdown. Kincade had nine carries for 56 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Chad Williams had a game-high 10 receptions for 89 yards and one touchdown. He also threw a 32-yard touchdown pass. Martez Carter was a key factor in the running game, with 279 yards of total offense. He rushed for 118 yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns, and had an 88-yard kickoff return for a score. Southern running back Lenard Tillery had 26 rushing attempts for 234 yards and one touchdown that was an 85-yard run that displayed his power and speed in the open field.
