Obama and first lady quizzed each other on Olympic favorites, sharing special memories, sports and athletes
Every four years, Americans all around the country find themselves glued to television sets, intensely watching sports that aren’t even be a blip on their radar during the regular season (air rifle, anyone?). The Olympics is a great uniter, affording Americans the opportunity to support athletes representing our country and giving the games a much larger purpose.
This year, even President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama joined the craze over the Olympics, which began Aug. 5 in Rio de Janeiro.
In a video posted to YouTube from the official White House account, the two bounced Olympics-related questions back and forth in their very own quiz, ranging from Michelle Obama’s favorite Olympic memory to Barack Obama’s favorite Olympian. Answer: track and field athlete Jesse Owens.
“It’s got to be Jesse Owens, even though it’s a little before my time,” Barack Obama said. “When you think about not only being the fastest man in the world, but you’re doing it in front of the Nazis, sending a clear signal about what America stands for, the equality of all human beings – pretty powerful stuff.”
