Misty Copeland’s year just keeps getting better … she’s married now
Her longtime boyfriend put a ring on it — here’s how her dress may have looked

The first black American Ballet Theatre principal ballerina Misty Copeland has been having the best year ever. In May, the 33-year-old dancer announced that Mattel was creating a new Barbie doll in her likeness. Now she’s married to lawyer Olu Evans, her longtime bae of 10 years.
The two met through Evans’ cousin, actor Taye Diggs, at the former New York City club Lotus. Diggs was with the couple to celebrate their engagement.
According to E! News, the wedding was a small ceremony of about 100 guests at Montage Hotel in Laguna Beach, California. The ceremony was so private, there were no photos made public. A source told E! News that Copeland wore a Inbal Dror gown, adding a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes to her ensemble. The decorations included pink and white roses and pink hydrangeas.
Copeland announced her engagement in the September 2015 issue of Essence magazine. During the planning phase, she said she envisioned her wedding gown to be figure-flattering and “somewhat romantic and elegant.”
Copeland, who has been vocal on body image, told E! News that she didn’t want a poofy dress. “It’s very different for a performer, a ballerina, someone who is onstage a lot and wears big costumes. So it’s not like this is my chance to be that way, because that’s something I do every day, almost. I want to feel like myself — but more beautiful than I do every day.”
You may recognize the brand Inbal Dror from musical artist Beyoncé, who wore a bridal bodysuit during her Formation World Tour.
The designer’s Instagram page is filled with wedding gowns. Check out a few that we could see Copeland donning on her big day.
Congratulations, Misty Copeland!
