Ever wanted to sparkle, flash and smell like a cookie? Or rather, Cookie Lyon, the sassy fashionista lead character on Fox’s hit TV series, Empire?
Now you can, thanks to a new Empire-themed jewelry collection that will be released in time for the show’s season three premiere on Sept. 21. The woman’s fragrance, Lyon’s Truth, and men’s cologne, Lyon’s Legacy, will be released in time for the holiday season and will be sold at Macy’s stores and online.
The streetwear jewelry line is designed by King Ice, the Los Angeles-based hip-hop brand, which has designed high-end custom pieces for artists such as Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Slim the Mobster, The Game and Snoop Dogg, who is the brand’s ambassador. Each music-inspired piece highlights the themes of the show and the fictional Lyon dynasty, and are made using 3-D printers that can duplicate the high-end design aesthetic of the brand’s more expensive blinged-out designs. The pieces in the collection are priced from $50 to $90.
“Our custom pieces have been featured on the show for a couple of seasons because the show’s costume designers were actually buying our jewelry to style Taraji [P. Henson] and Terrence Howard,” said Derek Belay, co-founder, along with Cuong Diep, of King Ice.
“So we had one of those aha moments where we thought why not make the same designs at a lower price point, but that have the same quality and native style as the custom pieces.”
The 15-piece capsule Empire collection was borne out of several key thematic elements of the show: a lion’s head pendant that symbolizes the Lyon family name; music industry totems such as a microphone, electric plug and sheet music bar; and Cookie-inspired nameplates, crowns and high-heeled shoes.
