Emmys 2018: High expectations for ‘Atlanta,’ ‘black-ish,’ ‘This is Us,’ and more

Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Legend, Thandie Newton are among those nominated

The biggest night in the television industry is finally here and expectations for a hilarious — and winning — night are high. Saturday Night Live funnymen Michael Che and Colin Jost are hosting the 70th annual event, which is set to broadcast Monday night on NBC from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. The big show begins at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST — it’ll air live on both coasts — and of course The Undefeated will be live tweeting all of the big moments as they unfold.

Join us on Twitter as we check in on favorites such as FX’s Atlanta and ABC’s black-ish, which are both up for outstanding comedy series, as well as This is Us for outstanding drama series. Also on deck? Brian Tyree Henry is nominated for his role in Atlanta and Thandie Newton for hers in HBO’s Westworld. Other nominees include: Comedy Central’s The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Cicely Tyson for her guest role in ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder, Maya Rudolph for NBC’s The Good Place, Tiffany Haddish and Donald Glover for their Saturday Night Live moments, VH1’s RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked for outstanding unstructured reality program, and Zazie Beetz for Atlanta. New EGOT John Legend is up for outstanding lead actor in a limited series or a movie for his role in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Will everyone’s fave — Sterling K. Brown — get up on that stage again? Or will Jeffrey Wright beat him out, with his role in Westworld? Will Issa Rae — nominated as outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Insecure — be up there rooting for everybody black — with a trophy in hand? Or will Tracey Ellis Ross win in that category, for her role in black-ish? Tune in.
