What a start to the season: upsets, big comebacks and great plays

College football is back! So many wild things happened last weekend, including an epic showdown in Texas and some major upsets — and this was only Week 1! This year’s opening weekend was called one of the best in college football history, and some of the odd matchups, greatest wins and biggest disappointments all made our list of huge moments.

Between Friday and Monday, there were more than 57 games played, and out of the top 25 teams, 17 ranked programs hit the field.

Below are six of the most undefeated moments from Week 1:

6. J.T. BARRETT’S seven-touchdown day

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett had himself a day against Bowling Green, accounting for seven touchdowns, six of which came through the air. He broke a school record in Ohio State’s 77-10 win over Bowling Green on Saturday for the most total touchdowns in a game.

5. We see you, coach Charlie Strong

The unranked Texas Longhorns upset No. 10 Notre Dame on Sunday night in a double-overtime thriller that ended in a 50-47 victory.

4. Wisconsin upsets Louisiana state in defensive struggle

Wisconsin forced two interceptions and scored just enough to pull out the 16-14 stunner over Louisiana State University at Lambeau Field.

3. Houston prevails in early-ranked matchup over Oklahoma

Led by defensive back Brandon Wilson’s 100-yard return of a missed field goal, No. 15 Houston shocked No. 3 Oklahoma, 33-23.

2. Michigan cashes in on second pick-six

The Wolverines’ defensive back Channing Stribling intercepted Hawaii quarterback Dru Brown’s pass and took it back for a touchdown, putting Michigan up 49-0. The game ended in a whopping 63-3 win over Hawaii.

1. FLorida State’s thrilling comeback

Quarterback Chad Kelly got Ole Miss up early with a 28-13 halftime lead, but the second half belonged to Florida State as quarterback Deondre Francois led the Seminoles in a roaring comeback with 33 unanswered points in a 45-34 victory.
