Bryce Young’s superpower has Carolina Panthers believing

Fourth-year quarterback is playing with confidence after rough start to career

This season, Andscape will document the ups and downs of this Black quarterback fraternity and how each of them is carrying their specific burden of proof.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young has carried a burden of proof since he began playing competitive sports.

Naysayers said he was too short to be an effective quarterback, but at each level of competition from high school to the University of Alabama to becoming the first overall pick in the NFL draft, Young proved his championship pedigree with humility and quiet confidence.

But after a slow start to his NFL career, Young’s doubters had their day.

Young was benched two games into his second NFL season and was challenged to prove that he could be a franchise quarterback. This season, Young is playing with poise and confidence, and he’s beginning to make believers out of his critics.

Young is proving that he has the skill, the leadership and the determination to win. He’ll never be tall enough to see over massive lineman, but he can see around corners. He has the ability to convince those around him that anything is possible. His superpower is faith: faith in himself and faith in his teammates.

Young will likely have detractors until he wins a championship, but there’s definitely a change taking place.

The burden of proof is now being carried by the critics who doubt him.
